Email Friend Contact Author (ePrintWire.Org) – GoodNewsEthiopia.com (GNE) was an online magazine created in Oregon, USA in July 2009 to document and share good news and positive stories about Ethiopia.
“The magazine received tens of thousands of visitors, who liked our efforts and embraced our idea. However, they felt that we could have greater impact and reach a much broader and larger audience if we expanded our service to cover Africa and Africans in the Diaspora, instead of limiting ourself to just one country – Ethiopia”, said Mamo Gebrehiwot, the Founder & Publisher of GNE. As a result, Good News Ethiopia was renamed & rebranded Good News Africa, as of January 2010. Our Mission Our mission is to provide a platform where you can read news and share information about Africa and Africans that are positive, educational and informative. Goal Our goal is to inform visitors that Africa is not a country but a wonderful & diverse continent with: • 53 independent countries • 1.1 billion black, Arab, white, Indian and mixed race consumers • A 300-million strong and growing middle-class population • $2,210 billion in GDP • 30 million Africans in Diaspora who send back $40 billion annually • 1.4 million African consumers in the US who command $50 billion in purchasing power • English, French, Arabic, Portuguese and thousands of African languages and dialects are spoken. • Great History & Culture • Hospitable, talented, smart, resourceful and resilient people • Rich in natural resources • Untapped Investment Opportunities • Vibrant and creative entrepreneurs • Gifted athletes • Wonderful Travel & Tourism Destinations and much more Why “Good News”? The media often portrays Africa as a continent associated with war, famine, natural & humanitarian disasters. We don’t deny that Africa faces many of these natural and man-made challenges. But despite the enormous problems that exist, many African countries have made and continue to make progress. Unfortunately neither the international nor the domestic media seem to be interested to report that. That’s why we have decided to take on the challenge and create this platform. We’ve decided to concentrate on “Good News” not only because it is not often reported, but it is our firm belief that the more positive news and stories that young Africans read, the more likely they will be inspired to work hard and be optimistic about their future. Africa is our Responsibility Most of us Africans often complain that the international media doesn’t portray the continent kindly. To that, we say that first and foremost Africa is not their responsibility, and secondly why do we need someone else to tell us what is good about Africa and ourselves. We strongly believe that as Africans we have to take the challenge and show the world that not everything in Africa is doom and gloom. Good things do happen in Africa every day, and very often because of the hard work and creativity of Africans themselves. ” Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek”.
