Books in the Ancestor Series could fit well in one of the other thriller sub-genres: action, suspense or mystery. Book I, The Mountain Place of Knowledge, centers on discovery of a mysterious place of knowledge created by “The Ancestors” 180,000 years ago, and located inside a mountaintop in Belize. The plot focuses on two feisty scientists, who don’t realize they’re in love and are sent by the UN to investigate the death of an UN administrator vacationing in Belize. Their perilous adventure uncovers an ancient Mayan codex, revealing the secret entrance to the mountain and its mysterious wonders. The two stalwart characters are forced to deal with the interests of the CIA, a local museum curator afflicted with demented avarice, a strange Indian monk sent to assist them, a small force of NATO troops assigned to provide security, and a covert attack orchestrated by China to control the mountain site and gain possession of what lies inside.

Book II, The Ice Cap and the Rift, finds the same two feisty scientists heading an expedition to investigate the contents of a huge cavern dissected by a fifteen-mile long rift torn across an Icelandic ice cap, one result of a massive comboquake affecting the entire Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Eleven hundred feet down the face of the rift, the cavern holds objects and structures suspended in ice that logic says shouldn’t be present. An advanced civilization has left behind artifacts based on unfamiliar scientific principles, including an interplanetary travel vehicle. As secrets leak out, the scientists must fend for themselves against the clandestine assaults of the CIA, a Mid-Eastern terrorist group, and the Chinese. Acts of deceit and violence cascade into escalating brutality, and lives become expendable. Frantic action streams across oceans and air-lanes, from Iceland to the US, Libya, France, Spain and China. As factions grapple for control of ancient technology, survival for the UN scientists lies in choices of whom to trust, how to utilize mysterious new technologies, and whether to seek assistance from an esoteric race claiming domicile in the Pleiades, a star cluster of the Taurus constellation.

Both stories contain scatterings of plausible technological gadgetry. They are sprinkled with eastern metaphysical philosophy, and run for readers like raging rivers. The themes of mythical ancient races, adventure in strange inhospitable locations, discovery of arcane ancient technology and instruments of immense power, encounters with various forms of evil and heedless slaughter, and a young man and a woman growing together through the shared experiences of hazardous sojourns are ageless attractions for avid thriller readers. Chamberlain’s writing is riveting. The characters are captivating and real, and he succeeds in stirring the strings of reader excitement and facilitating a personal sense of identification with the adventures and mysteries.

It was never Chamberlain’s intent to write fiction books. He had dabbled with a novel in his late twenties, and during his career in investment banking he put together many business documents and published several metaphysical articles. But on August 14th, 1998, as he sat reading in the Fort Myers Beach Public Library, a story involuntarily welled up and began spewing from his pen as fast as he could write. He was consistently compelled to write, and in a year’s time the first draft of the four-book Ancestor Series materialized. Since then, it has been a long road to learning how to effectively edit and enrich a story, and prepare and guide a completed manuscript through the publishing process. Along the way he authored and published the trade paperback, Creative Self-Publishing in the World Marketplace.
