Still Motion Media, creator and producer of MobiStories, digital books for kids, today released “President Barack Obama in Pictures,” an interactive application that can be downloaded to an iPhone or iTouch.
This book of photos and corresponding captions mirrors the same MobiStory that was released last month for download to computers. Licensed from Enslow Publishers, the app chronicles Obama’s life as a child through his rise to Senator and ultimately to the White House.
Still Motion Media has a knack for bringing books to life, and this app is no exception. Featuring audio clips of the President taken from the both campaign trail and his historical inaugural commencement, kids can access the photos and learn a few Fun Facts along the way. Narrating the English version of this ebook is the internationally recognized speaker and top selling author, Sanyika Calloway Boyce.
What makes this iPhone app even more special is that it is narrated and written in three languages: English, Spanish and Chinese. Unique-to-MobiStories controls on each page allow the reader to hear any language and see any text. “Hearing the Chinese and seeing the English text, or vice versa, is something many language educators have requested,” commented Rick Toone, Creative Director of Still Motion Media. “Furthermore, by adding multiple languages, more children will be able to enjoy this MobiStory,” he continued. “Exposure to alternate languages is something kids don’t have access to in a traditional textbook on this kind of subject matter. Photos of Obama growing up, of his wife, Michelle and their two daughters, Sasha and Malia are cleverly depicted as snapshots within a camera body. When the user “taps” the camera, a shutter sound will be heard, the photo will enlarge, the photo caption will appear and the narration will begin. Utilizing iPhone functionality, double tapping the photo brings it full screen on the handheld device. Children, parents and educators will appreciate the content and its presentation.
The next book in the 4-book series will feature Michelle Obama. Boyce will again narrate the English version of the MobiStory, and users will be able to choose which language to hear and which text to see. Like the Barack Obama MobiStory, the Michelle Obama MobiStory will be released for the iPhone, iTouch and computer later this month.
